The Club

Ashfield RC was formed in 1986 by a group of footballers who wanted to form a cycling club which they did with help from Arthur Gamble.

The first meetings were held in the Dixies' Arms after which they moved between several local youth clubs one of which was in a field ! When the club outgrew this it moved back to an annex behind the Dixies' Arms, before finally settling at the Gate Inn at Jacksdale.

Throughout this time members of the club were organising and participating in many races. In its first year the club promoted the Division Road Race Championship at Selston, and has subsequently organised races in many disciplines over the years.

The club's first milestone was achieved in 1987 when junior rider Andrew Wilson represented Great Britain at the senior Girvan 3 day in Scotland. In the same year Andy Hurford finished 4th in the National Road Race Championships and rode the Tour of Britain.

Since then the club has had a great deal of success. More information can be found about the club's achievements in various disciplines via the following links:Road, Cyclo-cross,and Time trialing
